More Ohioans Are Forming Businesses Than Ever Before
Despite - or perhaps because of - the COVID-19 pandemic, Ohioans are forming new businesses like never before. Almost 20,000 new business filings were made with the Ohio Secretary of State in March 2021 - more than any single month in Ohio’s history.
This monthly record follows on the heels of a new annual record set in 2020. Last year, the Ohio Secretary of State reported a record 171,073 new business filings, far outpacing the next highest total of 130,621 set in 2019. These new businesses included limited liability companies, partnerships, non-profit and for-profit corporations, and other entities, all of which are legally formed by filing paperwork with the Secretary of State Business Services Division.
